When a goalie puts on the goalie pads and gets between the pipes, he knows that he is in for what could be a tough situation. Yeah they were a million pads that are ten times more cushioned than other players pads, but it's still dangers. My friend used to play street hockey. He wore a pair of Mylec goalie leg pads. These were the kind that had the buckle in the back. Aside from the fact that he complained that they pinched his legs sometimes, he would have to watch out if he turned his back. There were small openings behind the legs that were unpadded and exposed. These spots that the leg pads didn't cover would hurt him if he got hit by the puck from a hard slap shot.
It's always important to know your hockey equipment. Alot of inline hockey players do not use as many pads as ice hockey players. The reason for most is that they don't have to worry about getting as hurt, because the pucks are not as hard in roller hockey. To some extent that's true, but they still can do damage. Also make sure you get a good goalie helmet. Don't get one that has the neck area exposed too much. If you do, then make sure you get a goalie neck protector to cover the area.
Another thing street hockey goalies can add as protection are goalie skates. Most street hockey goalies like to wear sneakers, because it's easier to go down and make a save, but they can still hurt your feet. Usually, the best hockey skates aren't necessary for extra protection as almost any inline skate is more protective than a shoe. The bottom line is that goalies need to be sharp and have great protective gear. The more expensive your equipment is, the safer you will be when it comes to playing the position of a hockey goalie. Remember, everything counts. You need good waffles, gloves and chest protectors. If you do not have this stuff, you risk serious injury. There have been many instances where goalies have been hurt. This is for both ice hockey goalies and inline hockey goalies. Think about this. This is a position where other hockey players are getting their sticks, winding up and then shooting a hard object at you. Pucks can hurt goalies and they can leave bruises, scars and all kinds of marks.
Some people start off using Franklin and Mylec Goalie equipment. This ok for beginners, but you may want to get more expensive leather pads from manufacturers like TPS and Sherwood if you want to be the absolute best goalie you can be. In almost all cases, the better goalies are the ones that have the better equipment. It makes sense, those are the ones that would feel safer wouldn't they? In the end, there is only a couple of hockey rules you need to remember when buying goalie equipment. The goalie pads should be expensive(for protection) and they should be comfortable.
